The Africa FT4 DX Contest - 13 September 2025

The goal of this competition is to encourage digital DX activity across Africa, with a particular focus on the FT4 digital mode, which could also contribute toward earning the SARL All Africa Award. The DX Contest is open to all licensed radio amateurs in Africa, as well as those in the Indian Ocean and Atlantic Islands near the African coastline.

While the competition aims to boost digital activity in Africa, I was only able to make one contact outside South Africa—7Q1A, a special events call station in Malawi.

The competition kicked off on 13 September 2025 at 15:00 UTC and wrapped up at 18:00 UTC on the 20, 40, and 80-meter bands, with a transmission power limit of 100W.

I managed a total of 43 contacts, earning 110 points. This was the second leg of the competition, and unfortunately, I missed the first leg. As a result, I don’t expect to place anywhere near the top three. However, I’m determined to be better prepared next year, ensuring I participate in all legs of the contest to improve my chances of securing a spot in the top 10.

Overall, it was a great experience, and I’m already looking forward to the next FT4 digital contest!
